Alkagesta has agreed to acquire Energy Petrol, an independent marine fuel distributor in Türkiye, in a transaction that will give the trader its first owned vessels. According to Alkagesta Newsroom, the Turkish Competition Authority has approved the deal, which includes eight bunkering vessels and access to additional oil products storage.
The acquisition package includes a long-term lease covering 28,000 cubic metres of tank capacity at the Altıntel terminal in Gebze. The company’s newsroom said this would take total oil products storage under Alkagesta to approximately 728,000 cubic metres. The vessels represent a change in its shipping arrangements: the company had previously chartered tonnage rather than owned ships.
Energy Petrol was established in 1997 and is described by Alkagesta Newsroom as the third-largest physical marine fuel supplier in the port of Istanbul. It will retain its existing brand and customer base and continue operating independently. The stated arrangements therefore preserve the acquired business’s commercial identity while bringing its bunkering fleet and leased terminal capacity under the transaction.
In its account of international press coverage, Alkagesta Newsroom presented the purchase as a move beyond wholesale marine fuel trading into direct distribution to end users. The newsroom cited reports that Alkagesta had supplied Energy Petrol on a wholesale basis for several years before the agreement. It also said the company secured the deal through a competitive sale process involving other trading houses and industry majors.
The same account put Alkagesta’s trading volume in the first half of 2026 at 4.9 million tonnes, an increase of 53% from a year earlier. Asad Huseynov, Alkagesta’s managing director of investments and asset management, linked the transaction to a broader move in commodity markets towards a stronger asset base and business models designed for long-term sustainability, according to the newsroom.
