Alkagesta met Singapore Management University students interested in shipping and commodities at Industry Networking Night 2026 on 15 October, according to Alkagesta Newsroom. The company linked its participation to efforts to attract and develop local talent as it builds its presence in Singapore. The event was organised by the Maritime Merchants Society with support from ITI@SMU.

Representing the company were Agshin Bakirzade, Commodity Trading Director, APAC, and Afiq Salim, Senior Marine Fuel Trader. Students raised questions about routes into trading, operations and trade finance. Alkagesta said its representatives discussed the practical aspects of everyday work in marine fuels, giving those considering the sector an opportunity to hear directly from members of its trading team about the work involved.

The outreach comes against the backdrop of growth at Alkagesta Asia. According to the company’s newsroom, the business reached approximately 250,000 metric tonnes a month during its first full year of operations. Alkagesta described Singapore as central to that expansion and said developing local staff was an important part of establishing a lasting presence as the hub grows. The report presented university engagement as part of that approach to building its workforce.

Alkagesta also connected the student event with what it described as a record first half of 2026. It said that performance had generated demand for additional skills in trading, operations and finance. Those areas overlap with the career paths students asked about during the evening, although the report did not set out recruitment targets or identify specific vacancies.

The company described Singapore as the world’s largest marine fuels hub and said events of this kind help students understand the opportunities available. It also placed university outreach within the commitment to people and communities outlined in its ESG Framework.
