Alkagesta has concluded its participation in SIBCON 2026 in Singapore, where discussions covered marine fuel diversification, security of supply and the expansion of shipping decarbonisation projects beyond pilot programmes. According to Alkagesta Newsroom, the company’s team attended industry sessions and held meetings with participants from the shipping and marine fuels sectors during the week.

The company said the move towards a broader marine fuel mix was a prominent conference theme. Discussions considered how biofuels, methanol and LNG could supplement conventional fuels, with their roles varying across vessel types and trade routes. Alkagesta linked those discussions to its own efforts to develop sustainable fuels capabilities, citing a five-year UCO feedstock offtake agreement and a multi-year agreement for biofuel storage at Pantank in Antwerp.

Supply security was another recurring topic in the company’s account of the event. Alkagesta Newsroom said participants discussed diversification as a way to manage risk by limiting reliance on an individual supply source. The report presented a wider choice of fuels as a means of improving operators’ resilience against a backdrop of continuing supply pressures in global energy markets.

Conference sessions also examined what would be needed to take decarbonisation initiatives from trials into commercial-scale operations. According to the company’s report, industry leaders identified clearer regulation, safety frameworks and financing access as important conditions for that transition. Alongside the formal programme, Alkagesta said its representatives met shipowners, bunker traders, customers and suppliers to maintain existing relationships and explore potential collaboration in the APAC region.

Alkagesta’s delegation included founder and chief executive Orkhan Rustamov; Tural Huseynov, managing director for investments and asset management; Agshin Bakirzade, commodity trading director for APAC; Mithat Çiftçioğlu, marine fuels distribution director; and Afiq Salim, senior marine fuel trader.
